We are all so excited about the new Sizzix Mixed Media Thinlits dies by Tim Holtz ! Made With Love are Sizzix Distributors for Singapore and the shipment of new CHA2016 Sizzix dies were waited for impatiently ! I’ve just gotten my hands on the Mixed Media #2 Thinlits and had a wonderful few hours creating a canvas using one of the designs from the pack.
Distress Crayons will be available at Made With Love soon, remember to keep watching the Facebook for the list of new arrivals every Thursday.
The one word on every mixed media crafter’s mind would be *texture* and there are several ways to do this. Within the Ranger and Tim Holtz range of supplies there are different types of Glitter and Embossing Powders, texture pastes and more. Exploring these mediums are a fun way to come up with your own combination of surface treatments that add colour as well as texture to your work.
On your Big Shot Plus, to use Thinlits dies, remember to use the thicker Adapter A.
To use Thinlits on the Big Shot Plus, your sandwich from the bottom: the Plus Platform, the thicker Adapter A, one Cutting Pad, then the paper facing up, next the Thinlits facing down and lastly the other Cutting Pad. Send this through you Big Shot Plus.
I’ve used Ranger Watercolor paper as it’s strong, able to withstand repeated wet treatments and I love that the color is really white. The paper measurements are roughly 5 inches by 6 inches though the finished size is smaller. It’s better to start with a larger size when using wet medium and trim it smaller at the end.
Next I painted a thin layer of Gel medium to the surface. I had planned to use Distress Crayons and they work best on a prepped surface rather than a porous one. Dry with a heat tool.
Colour with Distress Crayons or any medium you prefer.
I randomly embossed the center portion with Ranger’s Tinsel Powder and the bits of glitter in the powder gave a wonderful sparkly boost to the die cut’s texture
Adjust the colouring by adding more paints or Distress Caryons, then trim the piece to neaten the edges. I like to add a thin line of colour to the edge to frame the die cut better.
Paint a 7 inches by 9 inches flat-back canvas with Distress paint Antique Linen and Fossilised Amber. Rub in Distress Crayon Picket Fence. You can use a stencil to *lift off* some of the Distress Crayon.

Today I’ve used mostly Idea-ology and the tab Remember. Layer the embellishments and the Stamper’s Anonyous Hashtag stamp set is so cool, perfect for this work.
I hope you enjoyed the quick instructions and will go on to create your own project based on the ideas here. The important thing is to enjoy the process, explore the mediums you have at hand, see what you can do with die-cuts.
Have a wonderful week ahead !
