Hello everyone ! Some of you might know I work with Made With Love and teach workshops there. It’s interesting work and I get questions about the products, how to use them and techniques related to them. There are crafters who’d like to attempt mix-media, they are watching You Tube videos, who need help in identifying the products as very often these items are not available in Singapore.
If you are new to exploring mixed-media, try to remember while techniques are good to know, please don’t get stressed or bogged down by it …… you get the case of missing the woods for the trees. There are many ways to create texture and dimension, and to be honest, at the end what matters most is the visual balance of colour and proportion.
The project above came about by a question I was asked : how do you use Texture Paste and Embossing Powder together ?
This is the result you see above. It’s very pretty after painted with Prima Sparks Acrylics, parts dimmed down with Distress Crayons. I LOVE, LOVE how it has a vintage feel to it.
The #Wonderful is stamped on black cardstock using my favorite Embossing Powder Liquid Platinum and trimmed to look like a label. Silver brads were inserted into the ends, then it was adhered to an old scrapbook metal accent.
The products I used are available at Made With Love.

On a small piece of watercolour paper, spread a layer of Texture Paste using a stencil. The thicker you spread the texture paste, the chunkier the end result. Lift the stencil carefully and sprinkle generously with embossing powder, and gently pour the excess off. Using a heat tool, heat till the embossing powder melts. Do this with the heat tool about 15cm away from the surface. The Embossing Powder Bridal Tinsel has bits of glitter in it and this added a stone-like texture after heat embossing.
I use Ranger products and if you were to use others, you might get a slightly different effect. It’s best to experiment on your own, keeping in mind not to overheat the texture paste as it will bubble and burn.
Paint with a shimmery acrylic and dry completely. Rubbing in Distress Crayons will add depth to the surface.
The Butterfly was stamped and heat embossed using Liquid Platinum and the inside lightly coloured with a Tombow Brush pen.
Idea-ology Flash Cards and Ephemera are the best fillers for vintage styled projects as they create the feeling of a time gone by.
The Happy is from the Sizzix Thinlits #2 Holiday words and die-cut using Copper Foil cardstock. Sizzix Laurel branch shapes are my go-to for more layers.
I am so glad you came by my Blog ! This was such a fun project for me and hopefully you will take ideas form here to create your own projects. Have a great week ahead !
