Hello everyone ! I Loved creating this Halloween Canvas with Sizzix and enjoyed working with the dies and layers of mediums. Though Halloween does not feature large in Singapore, it was satisfying going outside my creative zone assembling this project using the Cobweb and Raven dies by Tim Holtz.
Would you look at the intricate design ? Amazing, you have to see it in real life !
The Halloween word was embedded in Glitter cardstock.
And the Raven is looking out from behind the Witch’s Hat wondering what is up !
**This Die is no longer available but you can use the exact technique using this : Halloween Words Thin
Other supplies :
7″ X 9″ Flat Back Canvas
Distress Oxides – Seedless Reserves, Spiced Marmalade, Blue Jeans, Vintage Photo and Black Soot.
Distress Crayons – Seedless Reserves, Spiced Marmalade, Blue Jeans
Ranger Crackle Paste – Embossing Powder Ancient Gold
Prima Sparks Acrylic Sparks – Unicorn Hair
One of the wonderful things you can do with Thinlits is to Emboss them using the Embossing and Transfer Set and I highly recommend you watch these 2 videos :
1) Embossing by Sizzix Lifestyle
2) Jennifer McGuire Embossed impression technique with Ink
Emboss on cream cardstock the Cobweb using the Emboss and Transfer set and add colour using Distress Oxides in Seedless Reserves, Spiced Marmalade, Blue Jeans, Vintage Photo and Black Soot.
Next I worked on the 7″ X 9″ Canvas which is painted with a base of Black Gesso and Ranger Crackle Paste over the gesso. Leave the paste to dry completely and the cracks will be visible. This next step is so much fun, no such thing as wrong as you use the Inking Tool to rub in Distress Oxides to the Cracked surface.
This is how both pieces look after you are done.
In this next stage, I cut out 2 frames in matt board with the dimension :
1) Larger frame : outside edges 6 1/2″ X 5 1/2″, Frame width 1″
2) Smaller Frame : outside edges 5 1/2″ X 4 1/2″, Frame width 1/2″
This is how it looks like together.
Sometimes even though we have a picture in our heads of the project, changes commonly happen as we move along the process. After colouring the frames, I wanted the smaller frame on top rather than under. You will see how it looks a few photos down.
The Blue-Purple-Brown combination looks awesome !
Die cut a cobweb
Paint the cobweb a shimmery silver or pale gold
Adhere it under the smaller frame and here you can see the embossed cobweb under it almost like a shadow. I decided to use the smaller frame on top of the larger one as I felt this anchored the cobweb more securely.
I used the Witch’s Hat and Broom in the Stampers Anonymous Stamp Halloween Blueprint CMS200 and heat emboss with a matte finish powder in the Ranger Antiquities series. Ink with Black Soot to tint the cardstock slightly.
A short coil of Burlap string was tied around the broom before sticking it down on the right corner. Assemble the project by adhering the other accents.
To add the title Halloween, die cut the word in Black glitter Catdstock, then gently pull out the alphabets and adhere a strip of thin board behind.
Again die cut the same word in a contrasting paper, then fill in the word.
Remember to fill in the middles of letter A and O.
Add the title to the project.
The Raven was propped on the broom using adhesive foam dots.
Complete the canvas and you have a great project for displaying in your home for Halloween !
Thank you for joining me this Wednesday, and have fun creating this project !
