Hello everyone ! Can you believe it’s October, the final quarter of 2016 ? Where did all the time go ?
The Made With Love Design Team 2016 is playing a round of 5 Questions as this would be a good time to re-introduce ourselves, not to mention great fun as well ! Many of our customers come into the store, see all the layouts and projects on display and they ask who designed them. As the Designers are not based at the store, why not post information about ourselves ?
Here goes ………
1) Who am I ?
My name is Aida and I am the resident Educator/Designer at Made With Love Singapore as well as their Design Team Coordinator who takes care of the schedules and kits for amazingly talented Team Members. It’s a small store and there are times my job crosses over to window displays and product swatches. This is a dream job, one that aligns completely with what I love which is paper crafting !
I am on the Sizzix US Design Team and the past few years have Guest Designed for Tim Holtz, Ranger and Simon Says Stamp. You can find me on Instagram where I actively post my projects or work in progress.
Away from the store I am a wife and mom, we have lots of furry pets. Typically Singaporean ….. I LOVE food – cooking and finding good places to eat. My biggest grouse : having to keep my craft space tidy, I am a messy crafter !
This is my craft table, there’s always a project that’s in progress. Our cats think it’s their space too !
2) What is my creative style ?
This Halloween project, with layers, stamping, paints, inks and Sizzix die-cuts is pretty much what I am about currently. Creative styles change as we are constantly evolving as crafters especially when new products become new favourites, leading us to other ways of creating.
** Supplies for the project are listed below.
3) What inspires me ?
Colors, stunning work by other crafters, Instagram, new products !
Be fearless ….. just start !! Fairly often Singaporeans get caught up in wanting perfection, they MUST have all the right tools before they begin to learn something new. Yes, you do need some tools, not necessarily the best or the most expensive, and then approach the process as an adventure where there will be mistakes, but mostly there will be learning. Leave being competitive, or wanting to be like another crafter as this is a sure fire way to kill inspiration, creates insecurities, it stops you from developing an individual style or making what you really enjoy !
4 What I love about being Singaporean ?
To a crafter being in Singapore means having wonderful, CURRENT products in the stores and being a small island, getting to any craft store is easy. I often hear crafters in neighbouring countries moan loudly about the lack of supplies, how expensive their local stores are, how behind in stocks, how expensive it is to ship from the US online stores.
There is a phenomenal growth in art and crafting in Singapore with many offering workshops in endless varieties. We get famous Educators holding classes, local artists are getting more popular.
5) What do I wish for ?
For the crafting community : perhaps a gentler, a less competitive community, more sharing, it’s important to be ethical by crediting the original designer of any project they lift or copy.
As an Educator, I wish for crafters to understand that workshops are essential in learning how to use products effectively. It develops a keener eye for design and shows them how to create work that is polished, with a sophisticated finish. The learning is faster with practical, hands-on workshops. Educators these days have genuine industry experience or have trained in the craft and know what they are teaching.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these bits about myself, this has been really fun. Perhaps this post has inspired and put you on the road to focusing on the journey, not always the end.
Happy crafting !
